Serow
225 cc 60-70mph depending on tyres 70-80 mpg
seem to last forever
I have a 1990 and a 2005, love them to bits
You will *just* get one for a grand

A kwak KLX250 went on ebay recently in real good, low miles condition for £780, so something like that would be a good one to look out for, 33hp as well so not slow.

If you keep your eyes out you will get a decent older green laner for under a grand easy.

If you choose a common bike, the parts are dead cheap, plus these type of bikes are designed to take knocks, ive dropped my drz a few times, plastics get scratched at worst.

^ thats what im after but the price of the more common bikes is making it a bit out of reach (not as out of reach as car insurance though )

If you don't intend on doing much greenlaning, a DRZ400 is a good bet.

It will go off road, but is a bit on the heavy side to be particularly useful. However as a general cheap/fun hack it's great, and the 400cc makes it more usable on the road

A few people on here have got them - I have the SM version, which I actually really enjoy riding on the road, and you can also get a spare set of off road wheels for greenlaning.
