Good luck with it, flying is great fun.

I started about 8 years ago through the air cadets and university air squadron. I became an instructor for the air cadets and got hundreds of hours all for free.
I've gone professional with it now, currently out in Florida getting my CPL.

Just looked up the T600N, I take it you're getting a 3 axis microlight licence?

Smile Re: Going my license

I learnt to fly at Leicester started 19th August 1981, I was 18 on the 20th. I'm still at it earning my living in the Boeing 757, and spending my money on a Piper L18c Super Cub.

Enjoy it but be aware it's addictive

yes three axis microlight. the type of aircraft you can fly on that license has got amzingly sophiscated and flexible. a quick look for aircraft like the foxbat, C42 or Eurostar will show you what I mean. ONce qualified at this level and if im good enough I may well do the addtional work and lessons required to get my full PPL.

Early days yet though, lesson 2 on Sunday.

Essex nice aircraft by the way, theres one for sale in Leicester http://www.afors.com/index.php?page=...d=14019&imid=0

One ive been looking at http://www.afors.com/index.php?page=...d=17129&imid=0

Right, well first trial lesson only lasts 30 minutes (this is a compulsory part of the NPPL, but we were actually up for 40 minutes) cost £65 all equipment supplied. my second lesson proper tomorrow, will be £95 fo an hour. You have a set syllabus and must complete at least 25hours flying. This is the minimum amount of hours however, so dependent on age you may take longer (older = longer apparently !) you have a few multi choice exams and if you reach a certain level with all the above you pass and get your NPPL. I have budgeted about £3000 allowing for extra lessons and exam fees.

The goal I have set myself is to fly the channel by the end of 2012.

Sounds a lot but this was my budget for a trial bike. now deciding to stick to Tarmac and clouds

check here for proper details http://www.bmaa.org/

You may also need councilling as it's extremely addictive. Like biking

Indeed it is an expensive hobby, and once you have your ppl to keep current means a continuation of parting with money!

Good luck though, Im sure you will love it and become quickly addicted. A few of my friends did theirs in America then paid the conversion fee to be able to fly in the UK, but Im not sure that is a cheaper option these days.

I think flying is very similar to biking in a lot of ways, the skill element alone is comparable but with the extra "elements" of nature thrown in.
