i was fortunate enough to see the Ark Royal sailing down the clyde today between greenock and largs.
i didn't get the chance for any photos for sharing as i was driving but it was very impressive.the guy i work with in the van was in the Falklands on its sister ship in 1982. it had been parked at turnpick rd[the wibly wobly]for offloading and i had hoped to run up on the bike to see it but things are hectic at work so i hadn't had the chance. its on its way to newcastle for decomisioning so its a very sad day |

Yep, lucky enough to see her in the Thames a couple of years ago and of course in Pompey

about 15 years ago i was offered the chance to go and work on it for a few months sorting out the stores. Cruise around the Med was the way it was put to me.
Unfortunately I didn't go which was just as well cause the guys that did go had a horrible time.

We robbed lots of parts of her to keep us going. It's nice to share and I'm sure she got them back in the long run. Fond memories of lunch time beers in the Fountain Lake Jetty naafi

I think they will regret getting rid of the Ark, before new carriers are in service!!
It was my eldest lad Danny's first sea going ship after training. His girlfriend serves on it now! After basic training i spent my first 3 years on "the old" Ark Royal...(last Commission) Great days... Must be some more stories about the Ark? Phil. |
