Default Fuel sensor/warning light

Sorry I wouldnt be asking this question if some numbnuts hadnt misplaced his haynes manual

My fuel warning light hasnt worked for donkeys years and finally got round to looking at it today. When I turn the ignition on the fuel light is on and when I fire the bike up it goes off as it should. So took all the gubbins off the back of the clocks and got to this

Left to right is high beam bulb, neutral light, fuel light and indicator light. If it works when I turn the ignition on it can't be the bulb right? I've checked all the wiring and connectors and all are fine so must be the fuel sensor yes? Have I missed anything?

What bikes it on?

You checked the connections at the tank side?

errm

Get new copy of the Haynes, proceed to batter yourself over the head with it.
Then...

Drain the tank and get the tap out and have a look at it and check the terminals etc..
I'd look at the dash connector maybe full of rust.

The fuel level ones are on the 10 pin connector (4up 6down) and the fuel pins are specifically are (both bottom row) 3rd from right (Flashing) and end on right (fumes- solid right)

Haynes manual found so i'll refrain from self harming!

Drained the tank, mostly on to me the solder had cracked and the top sensor had come loose. Put it back but my mates going to test it for me tomorrow as I havent a scooby about checking to see if it still works

Thanks for the help Mr Smith
