We have one. You have to put some time into prepping the spud before jamming it in. Essentially before you shove the chips into it you have to wash them and then dry them as much as possible using kitchen paper.

However, thats just coming form someone who is a bit lazy.

It works very well and the chips you get out are reasonably crisp yet still fluffyish.

It also works with the tablespoon, or little green spoon thing you get with it, of oil that it recommends.

If you can be bothered to dry off your chips before cooking then its good (P.s if anyone reads this with one and has one of these and thinks im insane for drying off the chips, i really hope that it says you have to in the manual...something about starch? :S)

hope it helps

Frozen FRY chips also work reasonably well in them!

I have heard nothing but bad things about them , they were on Watchdog a couple of years ago as they were setting on fire . Apparently this was cured but a work colleague had one set on fire just 2 months ago . He also said that the amount of time it gets used and the price you pay for it you may as well just get bags of chips from the chippy . It`s not as if chips are soaked right through in fat anyway , the nature of the way they are fried (if done correctly) should not allow them to soak in any more than is required to crisp the outside and cook the inside . I would save your money on something useful and safer . Of course you are gonna get loads of replies refuting this and saying it`s the best thing ever ..... I would not take the risk on causing an "event" in my kitchen that may have the potential to kill me or burn my home down to the ground .

Thanks badger, nice to see both sides of the coin.

Think I'll wait till we have our own house, don't want to burn my folks house down.
