Andy Grey sacked by Sky Sports. Over re-action.

For anyone who hasn't heard Andy Grey has been sacked from a £1.7m a year job for making sexist comments about a female referee's assistant.

And apparently he had already been warned for this.

So do you agree that he should have been sacked or is it a big over-reaction led by the lazy newspapers again??

Maybe he refused to, or they wanted to get shot of him and this was a good reason to do it?

Hold on since when are there women linesman?

To be completely and utterly honest, most women/girls ive met don't really know the offside rule, and most surely won't know the ins and outs such as not being able to be called offside if the run is made from inside your half and various others little technicalities. But then again, the majority of women don't follow footy as much as men, and anyone can understand the offside rule if it was explained to them properly. I think this links into the racism thread created recently.

ie most people of race x ive met are such and such but does that make me a racist?

well who knows. I'm sure the women linesman are fully qualified to do their job, and all linesman make howlers sometimes.

video 2 was mainly about the 'looker', if that's sexist then flamin heck who aint?! As for video3, he tried it and failed epically, got embarrassed and zipped it.

vid1 most incriminating out of the lot, but then why aint the other guy getting sacked too. That sure wasn't one way.

in fairness to the lass who was the lines-person, because we obviously cant call them linesmen now that women are frequenting the post, she has bigger cajone's than me, i wouldnt want to be an official at a premier league game. can you imagine the pressure from the crowd, players and now the pundits

Totally agree with the sacking.
Thing is when I watched the match I thought it was offside, the cameraman then zoomed straight on the female linesman. I then thought oh man I hope she was right otherwise she's going to get a lot of stick. The replay then clearly showed the player well onside.

So if she was right, what the hell to Grey and Keys know about the offside rule?

I think it would be an over reaction if it was said jokingly but it wasn't, it was clearly sexism and IMO there's no room for it in 2011.
