I have a k6 sv and have been looking at swapping out my stock front calipers for a pair of k1-k3 gsxr6 calipers with an adapter plate. I have been looking around for information about the master cylinder and was wondering if anyone in here has any idea about the sv master cylinder compared to others. It seems that the stock sv master cylinder is the same as the master cylinder that was on the k1-k3 gsxr6's anyway and was wondering if anyone knew how effective it was as I had also been looking at getting a cbrf4i master cylinder to go with it as it has less travel with its 17mm piston rather than the 15.9mm of the sv. Would it be worth investing a bit more into the cbr master cylinder or just keep the sv master cylinder? I will be putting braided hoses on with it as well.

15.9 is more powerfull than the 17 smaller bore = more pressure (thats what iwas told any way)

Works fine with GSXR calipers and stock master. You can try honda part if you want but it may make them a bit OTT. I reckon it's better to have the firm feel with larger MC piston. Those calipers are not short of absolute power.
EDIT I had this lot backwards. The honda part will give you firmer feel, but less absolute pressure. (Used to referring to the SV as 5/8" as cast onto it...) Same thing still stands, they work fine with stock MC but try it and see if you like it, a matter of taste. Be careful buying adapter plates, avoid sv-racing-parts. Have a search on here for why. I don't think there are actually any alternatives out there sadly. TWF racing made a batch a while ago that actually worked.

Instead of swapping calipers just spend money on good pads and master cylinder. Stock sv calipers are good.

I would have to agree with Zadar there.
There SV brakes aren't all that bad. I stuck a set of SBS pads and braided lines on mine and it made a nice difference. |
