Default K5 - Alternatives to stock oil cooler hoses?

One of my oil cooler pipes has started to leak. It's the longer one with right-angle bend that goes to the RHS of the oil cooler. I've seen a couple of other threads where people have mentioned that they corrode and leak.

My question is, have people found a better alternative? Right now, I can see a poor-looking set on fleabay. I'm not sure how much they'll be from my local dealer or how long I'd have to wait for one, so I'm interested in possible alternatives.

e.g.
  • Getting one made up in better quality materials (mine is starting to leak where where the sleeve fits on the bend).
  • Is there a correct length+shape+fittings diameter that I could get from an automotive parts dealer like LCP?

Any thoughts or successful or failed replacements to report?

Thanks

Edit: Dealer just quoted me £66 for the pipe, but at least reckons he can get it within 24 hours.

That looks very nice.

Someone else on here who had previously posted on this subject said he'd had some made up by a hydraulics company cheaply, but for the moment I've given taken the easy but expensive way out - bought replacement stock item for delivery tomorrow - as I don't feel I can risk leaving the current one in place and having it fail completely during my daily motorway commute.
I hate paying full price for an OEM item that may still not last as long as the rest of the bike, but I'll keep it on my mental checklist of things to upgrade on the next SV I buy, or upgrade on my current one if I've still got it in another 4 years time.

Mine has just gone today , started the bike up after 2 months and noticed that the longer pipe was a bit crumbly , it is leaking oil and I am mightily dis-chuffed .

Pirtek is the hydraulics place that might make one up for you.

Might be worth be just whipping the knackered one off and going down to local hydraulics place and get them to make one . I can`t see anything special about the K3 ones , so would there be any harm in just having a braided run with a banjo at either end ?

And I just sent a mail to Hel , see what they come up with as they don`t list a kit for the SV but they do list a complete oil cooler kit , I just want the ruddy hoses

Funny timing this - I'm just in the process of getting a complete set of hoses to Goodridge in Exeter as they are going to make up a set of stainless braided hoses for my K6 that will become a new kit for general sale. If there is lots of interest we may get a forum discount, I'll ask anyway. Don't know the price yet though.

For a pair of power steering pipes for the car Pirtec wouldn't give me a firm quote, they said I would have to leave the car with them and they would do it for "probably around £150 but could be more for a custom job"

A local hydraulics firm made both pipes while I waited, supplied new banjo bolts and crush washers all for £45, 1 year on and no problems at all.

Those pipes dont look crusty on my SV but now I know they're a weak point I might get them replaced as a bit of 'preventative maintainance'

Wow, didnt know they would be that pricey.

Wanted to repace mine last year but never got round to it. Only doing it for looks etc

If a group buy were to come about from Goodridge i would be interested for sure.
