It is believed to be a ZX10R 03-04 shock but appears to have a K tech spring on it. I bought it with the intention of fitting it to my curvy a long time ago. But then that just never seemed to happen.. mainly because i would have needed to move some extra electronics out of my battery compartment and i had enough of a time getting them in the damn bike!!
But now it seems the stock rear shock on my 01 curvy at 24k has given in and piddled all over the floor and become bouncy with no sign of damping... So i need it and i would like to know what exactly im getting myself in for. I know you are supposed to need the bottom bolt that goes with these buggers but this had that with it. Anyone verify if that is the correct one? Images: ![]() ![]() ![]() Click for the bigger picture. Last edited by Elltg; 08-03-11 at 04:42 PM. |

Also could anyone who knows about it tell me how suitable this spring is? It has the markings K Tech 55/58-195-80 so i believe it is this http://www.k-tech.uk.com/product_detail.php?id=257. Does this seem right to you guys?

from the outside this does look like it came off a zx10 of 2004 or so, but the spring - 80 newtons
is what? 8,15 kgf? that's way too soft for a curvy and the shock itself could be revalved accordingly. as for the bolt, here's a link form america http://forum.svrider.com/showpost.ph...61&postcount=2 with pics and measurements. the nut is definitely wrong since it's supposed to be a skirted locknut. I'm a bit new to the ins and outs of rear shocks, what does the re-valve-ing do?
Price wise my best option at the moment is to get a another ktech spring to the same specs but 100N that way it comes out as the desireable 10kgf and has the quality and adjustability of the zx10r shock. Im just worried this re valving changes the performance and that i should be worried as such? |

What will you be doing with the old, softer spring? The reason I asked is because I have a 636 B1h shock that's apparently too hard for a pointy and that softer spring you have there will slip right on to the shock I have, according to the link you've posted from K-tech website

Okay thats exactly what i needed to know. Thanks.
When it goes to the shop to have the spring fitted i guess i shall have to have them do this. I intend on getting everything sorted properly on this. |

Before you do - it would be handy to know if revalving needs to be done. If it's needed it could make it more expensive than buying a whole new unit.
So does anyone know if spring rated at 540 pounds per inch were to go on on Elltg's shock would make it need re-valving and Elltg's spring (455 pounds per inch) on my 2003/2004 B1h 636 shock would need re-valving? If so - it could be cheaper to buy a more appropriate shock in the first instance... Last edited by BaP; 10-03-11 at 02:27 PM. |
