I need a car satnav for my gps streetline holder on the bike. Ideally something cheap, with european capabilities, bluetooth capabilities, and that isn't too fat, i could hopefully load routes onto if theres such a thing. And hasn't got to much width/girth if that makes sense.
Any recommendations would be fantastic i'm going to mount it to something (not sure what yet), then use the streetline gps cover as recommended by Rictus in another post somewhere. Any help much appriciated, cheers Matt. p.s. stuff off ebay would be fine aswell, i just don't know where to begin with car satnavs. Matt. Last edited by ManxMatt34; 13-03-11 at 04:48 PM. |

In a Mr T Voice 'BUY A MAP FOOL' Satnavs are for girls and make you lazy. You are a man, and therefore the use of Satnav is an admision of the lack of manliness.
The best mapping are form Grmain and TomTom. Thats all i know and they all take you the longest way round. |

I wanna go the long way around lol. I just find it easier, i would rather enjoy the ride that concentrate on finding my way round, which i'm just simply hopeless at :P. |

I have been using my Tom Tom 710 for 2 years now, it's great
![]() I got it from one of these factory refurb places on eBay for less than £100, originally over £300. |

I'd recommend a TomTom but if you get one you'd be best to get one of the earlier models even if you wanted to splash the cash on new prices.... I got a 530 not too long ago (510/710 just as good too). The reason I say this is because all these older models have SD card slots which means they can be "upgraded" and can be improved without cost if you know where to look or who to ask (my dad is an enthusiast which helps). New tomtoms do not have slots and require updates through official software which at the mo has put an end to any free "upgrading"
You should be able to get the refurbed as specialone has pointed out, and they're not too expensive either... As an aside: I, and many others I am sure, use a program called Tyre where you can import google routes, manipulate the waypoints as you like and export for use in the sat nav...the sat nav will then take you on the longest route you'd like hitting all the waypoints you tell it...the TomTom works well with this functionality as do others I am sure

Tomtoms on amazon for about £80 , can't see them having bluetooth though.
Kaivalagi - my old tomtom's an absolute nightmare trying to take me down one ways and roads that don't exist anymore - any tips on "upgrading" them? ![]()

As for updating a tomtom, it does depend on the model to what is possible and I am no expert either, I took the easy option and let my dad get funky with the thing...he needs something to do in his retirement and likes gadgets...I got a 530 when I got mine because of his tinkering and recommendations...and am happy with it I think he visits the gpsundergound site a lot...he told me just the other day he got new map data for his and my tomtom's...which reminds me I need to pop around his for a cuppa ![]()

Navman Mio. Pegs got one.
Never ever buy a Garmin, they are shi1te. We got one before the Navman and it only ever got us lost! It ended up int wheelie bin.....seriously got pi$$ed off with it. Very sluggish on the directions too. Navmans never let us down. He uses it on the bike too.
