Battery voltage help - SV650.org

Bike wouldnt start for the first time since ive owned it (two years) yesterday so i checked battery and it was only 11v so put it on the optimate 4 and it charged and checked right. So put it back on the bike and bike started no problem. So put my multimeter on the battery for voltage check
Results:
All off=12.6v
Ignition on + dip=12.1v
Idle @1300rpm + dip=13.1v
5000rpm + dip=12.4v
Is this a problem? and what do i check before i start poking about and make it worse. I read in a thread that it might be worth checking the unregulated output of the alternator? so how do i do that? Optimate 4 charged battery with no problems. I have no idea how old the battery is but have ordered a new yuasa one just incase.

From what i know, which isn't much at all... To check the reg/rec is working, if you start the bike, twist the throttle and if the lights brighten then it's charging the battery, if there is a battery voltage problem then I'd put it down to the battery being no good.

suppose i will put new battery on and see what happens. Going by what ive read on here the voltages are normal apart from the 5000rpm one which goes down to 12.4v instead of up to 14.4v?

Sound like a reg/rec or a old battery.

Might be worth getting a load/ condition test on the battery Halfords do them if its more local for you.

Are you looking at the D Esscose threads?

Once my new battery turns up i'll stick it on and see how it goes from there. I expected to see a higher reading at 5000rpm. D Esscose threads?
edit: just found D ecosse stuff and read it ta smithers

Have a check and clean of all the electrical connections on the right side of the battery behind the r/h tailpiece and the black triangular cover/vent over the seat bolt, before fitting your new battery, a load of connections are behind these. My bike wasn't charging very well, a check and clean up brought back the missing volts. . .

Doh! How do i test if its knackered for sure? or is that what the low voltage 5000rpm means.

For a start clean all connectors and run test again
Then test in yellow wires coming up from alternator that you have all 3 phases making good voltage (AC volts this time), it's possible they are breaking down under load.
