Default UK Anti Aircraft Gun map

Just nosing another forum and came accross this.

http://www.anti-aircraft.co.uk/HAA_gun_sites_map.html

Now some of these sites are very close to my place, and I know the small bit of woodlands, but is there really an Anti Aircraft gun sitting in the bush of trees? Surley not? Or is it like an episode of Thunderbirds where all the trees move back, a large trapdoor opens, and out pops a mammouth anti aircraft/flak gun?

Anyone know anything about these sites?

It's a historical wartime map from what I can see... some of the ones local to me are AAG sites but from WW2... now they are lumps of concrete circles in the ground.

Edit if you click some of the brown guns on the map it shows pictures.

You can clearly see in the trees in the above link the old fortifications.

What about a modern day map?

Surley there must be anti aircraft, or anti missile installations dotted around the south coast to prevent against any attack? but we've not got many military bases in Kent these days. Even Manston is no longer RAF.

I think radar and inteligence capabilities are such that the skies are protected by fast jets from various bases around the country.

If you ever find yourself bored... you could waste hours and hours on the below link;

http://www.secret-bases.co.uk/

That will be what your looking for... pretty much every military/naval/raf installation going is on that map.

The is no doubt some very very secret site like burlington/turnstyle used to be that the bloke just can't legally publish.

No need for ground mounted anti-aircraft or missile weapons these days.
The satellite mounted magnetic pulse weapons make them obsolete.

Don't know if anyone is bothered, but this site has loads of old military sites with photos.
