So I bought a Scorpion Street Extreme 2nd hand off here, that fits 2001-2008 models for my K3 SV650S. Seller forgot to include the clamp it was advertised as coming with so while waiting for it I got in contact with Scorpion and found out I could get a clamp for £3.50. In the process of doing so I got this diagram off of them:
![]() I then realised that the seller never mentioned a 2nd clamp (part 2) so I thought I'd order both the clamps (part 2 and part ![]() I've attempted to fit the exhaust this evening and come across a problem. The link pipe slots over the header fine, and the clamp to tighten it down on the header fits ok. Now, the link pipe slots into the muffler ok, but not perfect - there is about mm or 2 of play, its not really snugly fitting. I'm not sure if this is how it's meant to be or not, but then the main problem is this, part 2 off the diagram above (the 51-55mm band clamp) is nowhere near wide enough to clamp the link pipe to the muffler. The diameter of the link pipe at the muffler end is ~70mm. Not only that, but if you look at the picture I've taken below there is a hook in the way of the clamp, it will go around this, but it overlaps so it's not just on the muffler side of the join because of this hook, which I'm sure is not ideal... ![]() From other pictures I've seen of Scorpion Street Extremes on SV650s such as this one, the clamp looks like it sits nice and clean, not nudging over the edge of the link pipe... ![]() Which also brings me to the question of, what is this hook on the muffler for? Looking at the picture below I'm wondering if what was advertised as a "spring clamp" and looks like an exhaust manifold spring to me hooks on to these 2 points and puts some tension on the join between the muffler and the spring clamp eliminating that mm or 2 of play between the two that I mentioned earlier? ![]() So given that the clamp from the muffler to the link pipe supplied by scorpion (which I have checked is marked as a 51-55mm clamp and measures that also) doesn't fit, I'm thinking one of a few things: a) I'm a retard and I'm doing something drastically wrong b) Scorpion sent me the wrong diagram and hence I have ordered the wrong clamp off them c) This exhaust isn't actually a scorpion street extreme. (Although it looks very much like it is!) d) The link pipe is wrong (although it does fit nicely over the cut header and does fit into the muffler, albeit with a very minor amount of play at the muffler end) I'm guessing a is most likely, but I, nor my dad could work out what was going on and how it would fit, and I'm fairly new to all this mechanical know how, but my dad has serviced and repaired all his cars himself for donkey's years! In case of c I have measured that the length of the muffler is approx 23cm not including the end cap or the bit of pipe joined to the muffler opposite end of the end cap that the link pipe slots inside. And the diameter of that bit of pipe that the 51-55mm clamp is supposed to clamp around is ~70mm. Sorry for the massive essay, but any help or ideas would be appreciated, and I also wrote it with pictures so I could email the link to Scorpion incase they have any ideas. what you have is the newer type street extreme. the can fits on to the link pipe with a spring. there is no clamp necessary for that joint.
you stretch and attach the spring between the 2 parts pictured. phone scorpion and ask them for the spring. |

Awesome, I have a spring that looks like it goes there, but i was confused because the diagram had a clamp and no spring anywhere to be seen. That should actually completely answer the question now, hopefully I'll get it all sorted and finished tomorrow evening. Thank you for the quick reply!
