Just been doing some mooching around on some sites. Initial browsing leads me to believe I can sell my sv650sk6 and get my hands on an sv1000sk6 for little or no difference in my bank balance and no real change on my insurance.
So guys, what's everyones opinion. Is an SV1000 just as nice as a 650 but faster. I mean I love my 650, could I love a thousand just as much? Cheers |

Have a search its come up before. I wont comment as I've not ridden a thou, but dont believe everything you read on the internet, personally if you can get a test ride do so and then you'll be in a position to make your own mind up.

Good idea fizz. I will probably try and get a test ride. How are they on the track? I haven't yet done a trackday but my idea was to do some novice days and get happy with track riding while focussing mine towards the track. I mean, I always hear what good track bikes the 650's make but what about the 1000? |

Thought you were hell bent on the front end conversion for a 650 ?

The thou is an acquired taste. You will need a very good test ride and I recommend if you get one, have the multi adjustable suspension settings put back to book. They can be seriously ballsed up by previous owners making the ride awful. The brakes are supurb with EBC HH pads. If you live in town you will find it lumpy at first but give it a chance because once she gets going, the rush of torque is fantastic. I had a SV650SK3 before the thou and loved it. I bought the thou for more of the same and that’s what I believe I got. Plenty of people on here will tell you it’s heavy and hard to handle but I think it’s ace. I use mine regular on road and track and the rear shock is a bit soft ( and I’m light ) but the handling is ace. I run in inters on a bog standard bike and she does really well. I also find fuel consumption quite good except at the track where I’ve had to push back to pit lane twice. Use Michelin PP 2CT for ace life and performance which is well up to you and the bike. Mine has done about 20K miles and thirteen track days with only a failed rear exhaust collector gasket ( tenner ). Have a look at the photo’s in my profile or this thread to see some track action or pm me for any details you want. Alan

I'm biased. I really am. I've had the thou for four years and would only ever add it it, not replace her. I've got a full GSXR K5 front end conversion in the garage and I can't be bothered to do it because she goes so well. But at the end of the day the thou is cheap because people don't get on with it so have a good ride first and have a look at this site as well for loads of good info. Black framed bikes have more power but K3's look best. There is a copper K3 in the for sale section worth looking at right now. We are looking at booking in at Mallory on Good Friday so if we do, you can come down and see the old girl in action. Alan
