Evening!
Beowulf exhaust arrived today, hopefully fitting it at the weekend, just looking for any advice anybody would be kind enough to deposit my way. Any do's and dont's etc? But mainly what sealant should i use if any? I know its a relitivly simple job but its the first real mod iv done to the bike and i dont want to muck anything up! Thanks in advance |

most folk don't bother as the clamps should be enough, but if you want to just use clear silicone. dont use gungum. if you want to use that kind of product go to a motor factors and ask for exhaust joint sealer. using any kind of sealant will make removing the exhaust difficult in the future.

I used some permatex ultra copper RTV sealant, you can get a tube for about £6 off ebay. It's what everyone at the american SV650 forum reccomends using, and it's done a good job on mine so far. On the instructions with the scorpion exhausts, it does actually say to use a silicone sealant at the joins. But I don't think you have to, it helps sort out any little leaks though, depends how perfectionist you are! Apparently it doesn't cause any problems if you want to remove it in the future, but I can't vouch for it. If you go do a search on the SV portal though, theres quite a lot of posts about exhaust sealants and so on....
This video is really good if you're not sure of any parts in the installation process, theres 3 parts to it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gw0jSzkF_x8 Last edited by skithepowder; 15-04-11 at 11:29 AM. |

On all of my bikes I have only ever used the cheapest clear silicone sealant I could find in B&Q - works a treat, no need for more expensive stuff
