Right finally had my Stebel Magnum horn delivered this morning and have a few Q's
1. Where do i mount it, is it ok to mount on the standard OEM horn bracket? 2. Does it have to be wired separately or can it just be plugged into the OEM plug (Don't wanna blow the loom) 3. Does it have to have a new relay wired in? 4. What harm can be done if it is plugged directly into the OEM loom. Pack says it draw 5.5 amps @12v is this safe for plug and play? |

Let me know how you get on, I was going to fit one too - it all seems a trifle confusing with all the previous talk of installing relays etc. A swap over sounds way easier

I am perfectly capable of wiring a relay in and have no probs in doing it and how it all works, just wondered if it is necessary

Does it say on the standard horn what current it uses?

Try using the search function, there's a full thread on it and some schematics.

I know the why's a how to do it just wonder if it was completely necessary if it only draws 5.5amps, does anyone know whhat the curvy horn wiring can carry amperage wise?

The curvy circuit is fused at 15 amps and the wiring is quite capable of carrying the 5 amps you will draw, the only reason to use a relay in this situation is to reduce volt drop which will affect the loudness of the horn, or to protect the switch from over loading, leading to a fault. As the existing horn takes a similar current the switch will be fine. You will need to lengthen the wire about 2-3 inches to make sure you can route it without it being tight. I used the original bracket that is shorter than the one with the horn. Horn works fine.
