Some thing along these line should be useful.
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00952166000P This is from a U.S based site but you should be able to source here in the U.K. Cromwell tools do a reasonable selection of garage tools and might be of use to you. Check on line for your local branch and pop in to see them. HTH Paul Edit: I notice you're in Lincoln. There's a branch just near Cartwright Transport, North Hykham. Ask for the assistant manager Kev Miller and tell him Noddy from Doncaster sent you. Last edited by Noddy; 01-06-11 at 08:21 PM. |

My advice is to not use screw extractors like those linked to in the last post and if you wait a day or so I think you'll hear it again and again. They are extremely hard and if one snaps in the screw it'll make it a hell of a lot harder to remove the screw.

The one on the front mudguard is a shouldered bolt. Take a 10mm drill bit and drill it dead centre, just until you've gone through the head of the screw and no more. The head of the screw will pop off, remove the mudguard, and you'll be left with the shoulder of the screw sticking out of the forks that you can get a pair of mole grips onto. Don't let your drill bit get too hot, or you'll melt the plastic mudguard. Don't keep drilling if it's not drilling dead centre, you'll just have drilled away all of the shoulder on one side, before the head pops off on the other side, and you'll still be left with using an easy out to get the screw out of the fork.

Before drilling anything, get yourself an impact driver set for about £7, it's basically a driver that you clout with a hammer and it turns the end slightly in the direction you wanna go.
This method normally works for me, if you do need to drill it as ralph says, then use a coolant as they are hardish screws they will get hot quick. |
