Hi guys.
Can anyone recommend a free rival to MS Project. I need one that will open .mpp files.

This is recommended on openoffice.org and works with .mpp as I've just tried it

We've all got MSP on our machines here at work but most people don't know how to activate it (part of the extended image and simply needs "installing"). Are you sure you don't actually have it?? Go into your Control Panel and check out the Run Advertised Programs list.

Thanks for that. I've been using Ganttproject which is java based.
I use the new Praha version, which has more features and support for newer MS files.

Do you need to be able to edit it or just to view, there are loads of free viewers you can download, I had to find a load for work because we don't want to waste the tax payers money on Project licenses when most people only need to look at plans
