SV suspension weight capability?

How much weight can the SV650S(Curvy) stock suspension comfortably take? Im about 13 stone and my pillion would be about 14 stone. I would have thought it would be fine but no harm in asking.

7/8 stone? Really? Thats seems a little light if im honest, who actually weighs 7/8 stone with gear on? Considering its also capable of taking a pilllion 7/8 stone is ridiculous, do they expect people to weigh 4 stone or something? If this is the case then I will just have to tell my pillion they cant get on.

You sure its only 7/8 stone? Doesnt seem right when my little chinese 125cc was capable of taking 150 kilos.

twas a slight exaggeration i think, basicly the stock isn't very good, it will take it... just not very well

a common upgrade for the suspension is a rear shock from a ZX-6r, and new springs and oil in the front

OK thanks. Dont have the money right now to upgrade anything. Not even sure what pre-load its set to tbh. Would setting the pre-load higher improve the handling with just me on it? Any adverse effects from setting pre-loads up higher or even max?

Had 25 stone of rider and pillion, plus the weight of the gear last weekend. Had to jack the preload up full (though it was one of the better pointy models with the preload adjustable forks), but it managed it fine. It's not going to win any prizes, but it'll get you from A to B with no issues.

What pre-load setting would you recommend for me? (roughly 12-13 stone) I will just put it to max when taking pillion, but not sure what to have on with just me.

I think the stock setting is 4/7 so try this (7=hardest) but if it wallows in bends then clunk it up one. Typically a stock spring is good for about 15 stone, if you want to carry pillions a lot then you could get a stiffer one, it'll be too stiff for solo riding of course. Preload setting doesn't affect spring stiffness (really).
