Sup ya'll.
Need a chain for my bike. My current chain is at the end of its life and it keeps falling off when I'm riding. It's actually become dangerous now. I got rid of the SV late last year and am now riding a Honda CBF 250 (2004). Where should I get from? Honda dealer? < Pricey, but maybe the quality justifies the price? Regular bike parts place? < Cheaper, and quality might be ok Internet? < Risky, or is it? I'll get the mechanic to put it on, but if he orders it for me I have to pay quite a bit extra for his services. I'd rather obtain the chain my self. Views please. Fanx. Thing with mechanics is they won't exactly shop around for you. They just order from the company that they're familiar with.

Aziz,
quick question, when the chain fell off, were you riding it at the time ?.

Local bike shop.Take it in there and just get it done. Then you have a usable bike again.

For all that is holy...... Dude I dont want to be critical but WTF?
![]() DO NOT RIDE THAT BIKE!!! If not for your safety then think of others! If you can get a chain get a manual or google or a friend and have a go at fitting it yourself it wont be any worse than the situation you have now! Just please dont ride that deathtrap dude I beg you! |

I wouldn't worry about getting anything fancy for your 250. Anything OEM equivalent from DID or the like will do fine.
Buying a chain and sprocket kit online is fine - plenty of decent shops and ebay sellers. Busters/M&P are still suffering from their warehouse fire so delivery is slow just now so don't use them if you're in a hurry (and you're in a hurry). Bear in mind the cheaper sellers tend to take longer to post your goods. Get your mechanic to give you a price though - it might not be far away. Anything around £70/£80 plus labour would be reasonable, and he could probably supply it quickly. Is there no adjustment left at all? I'm surprised it's actually coming off - presumably jumping off the rear sprocket? Even though it's only a 250, there's still potential for that to end badly for you so I'd get onto it asap. It's one of those situations when it's not really worth saving a tenner if it means you're taking a chance by continuing to use the bike. Last edited by TamSV; 19-07-11 at 10:02 PM. |
