Textile Panniers

I recently did a bit of touring on my SV with the old man on his bike. I was lucky enough to get all my stuff into his panniers, but now looking at headin away with few mates. So need panniers to carry enough for 4 or 5 days that fit well on a sv650s and dont touch the exhaust etc..............so looking ur advice/previous experience to help me buy a set of panniers.

Any pannier is fine for stock exhaust, I have oxford humpbacks which are fine but most of stuff they make is reasonable enough. I've had a tankbag from oxford "first" line which is cheap un that's lasted for years and multiple crashes, I'd have some panniers from same range no trouble (except my silly exhaust would melt them a lot)

+1 i have the same oxford kit and it been fine so far (over a year) but i do also use a richa tank bag thats decent aswell

I managed a 5 day tour of scotland on a pair of oxford first time panniers and a tiny tank bag to hold the stuff I don't like in my pockets (phone, wallet, snood etc).

Only problem with then was it was a pain taking them off every night. And they moved round a bit, so make sure you protect your paint work (lesson learned).

Oh and don't try to do up the compression straps too tight....there is a limit.

yes stock exhaust is what i have. well 4 or 5 days like few t-shirts, underwear, shoes and wash bag. dont need loada pockets but couple would be handy. Can u get ones that dont require rain covers (i hear these have a tendancy to fly off)? What Litre capacity r ur humpbacks??

I have Oxford kit and can report that it is robust, reliable and keeps a lot of water out (but still use water proof bags, because a small amount of seepage is a lot of water on a ten hour ride!)

I use the 55L ones and they did not really knock much off mt top speed despite my bike being restricted and the bags being the size of Wales! I also have an Oxford Tank Bag and which when added up is more space than my rucksack I took Backpacking around Europe!

The pic is not great, due to bags being totally empty, but they do work. I am also aware that I am using the tank bag as a seat bag, but with tank bag in the right place, I have extra storage across the top of the panniers.

Is there not a paint protecting pad that come with some panniers??

+1 What jayne says. Mine are first time not humpback and are 48L and i put my stuff in dry sacks first (or bin bags) to save using and loosing the covers on't motorway at speed.

Dunno if any panniers come with it, but you can get matts that stop the rubbing, or use blue foam etc. Like I said - lesson learned.

anyone ever used Kriega tailpacks?? Just curious another person recommended them
