Default Post crash issues- write off

Hi,

I crashed my sv and BLD has just rang me to inform that the estimated repair cost will be 2100 pounds. The bike was only insured for 1500. This means the SV will be written off. Now I am wondering what will actually happen next and hope to get some advice.

I asked about the damage and the lady on the phone listed: front and rear brake lever, right front indicator, headlamp, top fairing, silencer (end can?), both mirrors and some bolts. She also said that some people could live with the scuffed parts but for the insurance, all of the those has to be replaced. I have asked for a written copy of the damaged parts.

I am going to accept a reasonable payout, and am wondering whether to buy the bike back and fix it up or just look for another bike.

Also, do they subtract the excess from the payout value?
As I have only used up 4 months of my insurance, will I get a refund on the premium (I paid in full)?

Thanks.

-insurance policy carries on, if you cancel they won't refund the rest of your money (so far as i am aware)
-yes, they subtract the excess from your payout

better off to fight for money from them, as much as you can get. No real point in buying the bike back and doing it up, imo. You can get a good SV for that money especially as its now the end of summer the prices will be lower than in previous months.

If you want to sell the bike when you get it back, let me know as I need some parts and a project.

defo buy it back as they will sell it to you for peanuts. I've had same situation with my rover 75, they payed me 2500 back and sold me my car for 250 quid. Worth a try I would say

Fully faired?

Sometimes you get bargains to buy back and sometimes its more than you think. Not long got mine back from BLD.

Let me know if you do decide to buy back but want to sell.

Bikini fairing.

I crashed into the back left handside of the car (with my right hand side) while on the slip road turning off a motorway. Locked the rear wheel while trying to slow down but managed to stay on the bike after the crash.

Immediately noticed that the front brake pedal and RHS indicator was snapped clean off. The rear brake pedal was bent.
