Default 3d tv

Seeing as the Org has an abundance of TV knowledge, a question.

Is 3D TV worth getting yet, or is it still in its infancy as regards technology and decent 3D channels?

I've said no, and Mrs w has said yes... perhaps I should contact Relate

I would bother with it, the tech is going to change soon. The image will be going into the screen rather than out, waste of time and money buying a 3d TV. I know a bit about it, one of dad's mate runs a company that installs 3d/video projection into the cinemas.

I wouldn't bother I reckon that it'll be a passing phase, or the tech will change like MM said?

Me I can't be bothered with it, I'd rather have a super dooper plasma or LED screen.

We've been to the cinema and seen 3D flicks, but I just get a headache watching it, and I can't see what all the fuss is about.

Save you're money

Only reason I think I would get a 3d TV would be gaming. But hardly any games support 3d at the moment.

I have seen 3d films at the cinema and after 10 mins you forget it's in 3d, it adds nothing to the viewing experience IMO.

Wrong. Check the list here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/3d-vision-games.html

It's a shame people are not buying into it. It really works great on computers but without the investment it won't be developed further.

I'm not convinced, and that's not just because it gives me headaches. I'd rather watch something in crystal clear image as if seeing it for real through a window then novel CGI ****e coming towards me. And I wouldn't fancy wearing the glasses. So personally, really not bothered about it...whether the rest of the UK feel the same I don't know.
One sign (for me) it may be sticking rounf though is the launch of Sky 3d channel. I'd 100% hangfire atleast if you're curious. I just bought a big new shiny LED one, freeview HD, and internet straight to it - they're two features that interest me.

I have a 3D TV. This looks pretty damn amazing

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1-4jisL-bM

And kiddies animated movies are pretty good, both coming out of the screen and into it in greater depth. Wildlife looks pretty amazing too.

Don't be fooled by the 2d to 3d conversion the likes of my Panasonic TV does though. It's no good, it has to be a proper 3d recorded image.

It's not as good as the cinema, as the screen is smaller so it doesn't engulf you the same. Sitting at home with glasses on makes you feel a bit of a technology victim too.

I'd say it is a gimmick for home viewing, but if the TV you want has 3d on it, then why not. I wouldn't buy a TV because it has 3d on it though.

i think that 3d telly's are here to stay but i would also say that they are still in their infancy. to me the 3d stuff on a telly looks like a moving version of those cheep crap nasty 3d pictures that you see in the tat shops, you know the ones that have cut out shapes that give you the depth and are in a box.

however 3d at the cinemas is great (sort of) i was well impressed with Immortals as they made no attempt to over emphasize it but went to see Hugo tonight and it was a bit overboard and a bad example, i enjoyed the movie and thought it was good but to much badly done 3d.

3dtv is not just buying a telly you have to factor in buying the bloody glasses as well. then its a new blu-ray player and if you are a serious av nut then a new amp that supports hdmi 1.4

personally i'm itching to change to 3d but i will wait till they have sorted it out a bit better.
