From the picture it looks a smaller gauge wire than the rest?
Without being able to see a dr650 wiring diagram I can't comment, but chances are it'll be a feed for a monitor or aux circuit, and not needed in your case.
Do you have a manual for the bike it came from?

You are correct, the extra wire is smaller than the others, i cannot find a manual and i think some models of this bike actually use a 5 wire. Trust me to end up with this. I thought there were only 5 and 7 wires.

do not plug it in!!!! it will fry everything as that orange wire goes up into the clocks/ that mess behind the headlight on the oz and us model....never quiet worked out what it did even after studying a wiring diagram for hours.
i believe but dont quote me on this its the same as the dr350 ill check tomorrow for you on wire colours, and if so i bought one from this lot http://www.brooksbarn.co.uk/DR350-RE...ire_ATE4W.aspx

has worked a treat and seems more solid better cooling less heat given off anyways ect.

also pop over here good bunch. http://www.maximum-suzuki.com/forums/index.php
lots of info and tips in the archive.

[edit]
also for some reason with that orange not plugged in it likes to throw out lots and lots and lots of ac...things go bang...quickly not that i would know ofc

Looking at the circuit diagram of a 94/95 DR650, O/B (does your orange wire have a tracer colour in it, same as the black has a white?), is connected to the battery +ve through the ignition switch. That would make it a monitor/feedback loop for the regulator, so leaving it open circuit would make odd things happen.
