Default Laptop buying advice

Ok I need a bit of Org back up advice here.

Eldest daughter wants a laptop and has seen this one on PC World (yes I know) for £279 reduced from £399

http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/compaq...61468-pdt.html

On Ebay's daily deals there's this one which has a slightly better spec processor, but slighty smaller HDD. Its being sold by DABS so they're ok. Again £279 but reduced from £499

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3208216099...ht_6404wt_1344

She'll not put up with a 2nd hand one or refurbished, and she's paying for most of it with her own money, so new it has to be.

She'll not over tax the memory or overwork it, it'll be used for surfing the net mainly.

I saw the one from dabs earlier today, good spec for the money however it was never really £399.

If her budget can stretch...

My eldest bought the one from PCW a few weeks ago and is well happy. She only uses it for internet (FB, shopping etc), so no power hungry gaming.

What do you need to know about them? Both will easily do what you want them to do.

I have the Fujitsu one and for the money you can't beat it. Build quality is a little plasticy but its fast enough for what I use it for.

Yep I agree, just wanted to know if the Fujitsu was better than the other

I expect they're both similar in build quality, but that the kind of review I was looking for

On build quality, after 15 years in the industry, I'd go for the HP Compaq, but the Fujitsu Siemens is by no means a bad quality laptop.

Ha, ha! Maybe. IBM (now Lenovo) went through a spell of having top spot with the Thinkpad laptops, and Sony used to be popular with the Vaio, but that was style over substance. Over the years I've seen Compaq in top spot with less hardware issues proportional to the number of laptops deployed than any other brand.

Ok, I'll let her have her choice of the PC world one, less arguments then.
