Don't you just hate the places?

My son has landed us in the children's ward in Kettering overnight a couple of times in 2011 with some scary asthma attacks, my Mum is in Birmingham QE for a heart operation tomorrow, my Uncle had a heart attack on New Years Eve and is recovering in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, my cousin has been in Intensive Care in Southampton since the week before xmas with a severe case of Pneumonia and a collapsed lung she's not getting any better, and my Mother-In-Law has spent New Year in hospital in France with two Gangrenous legs.

I'm feeling a bit shell shocked and developing a real hatred for hospitals TBH.

Sorry, not looking for sympathy or anything, I just had to get that out this evening.

Having spent a fair share of time in hospital in my life time I can sympathise with you.

I was in over Christmas once after I lost an argument with a bus

We nearly ended up going to one ourselves today after our 6 year old did a face plant after falling off her scooter.

Just battered and bruised thankfully

I spent far too much of last year in Addenbrookes. I was hoping ths year I would be paying fewer visits but its not looking too hopeful, I have a lumbar shunt that is likely to need adjusting after my appt on the 16th (the adjustment is fine, its the effect it has on my head and my senses for the following few weeks thats unbearable), and theyve just found three more stones in my left kidney. Looks like 2012 isnt going to be much better then...

At least its me and not the kids though so Im thankful for that!!

Sorry to hear about all your relatives.
Could be worse, they could be in a US hospital which would also cost them a ton of money.
I hate Hospitals btw.

My gf had a shunt fitted in september first time round and the 2nd one fitted on thursday before xmas. The shunt had basically blocked solid and she got discharged xmas eve. she had spent 2 months of last year in hospital too.

They are fantastic when working, id have permanent sight loss now if I hadnt had the surgery last April. Im pretty sure mines not blocked but is still on its highest setting so needs adjusting. I hope your gf recovers quickly and has no further problems xx

Yeah the doctors were suprised when they tested the pressure in the first place and then even more suprised when they seen the 1st shunt. Brilliant idea and how 2012 goes better.

Exactly mate. Other than short visits for motorbike accidents or the occasional asthma problem, I've never had to be admitted to hospital with a serious illness and spend any time there myself. I've only had to spend significant amounts of time at the bedside of family or friends, so I've been lucky that way, but I do hate people I care about going in, in case they don't come out.

Thanks for posting KJ. Get well soon and let us know how you get on. Here's hoping you'll get it sorted this year!

Please don't anybody be afraid to post in the thread because of my circumstances. I'm big enough and ugly enough and like I said in the OP, I didn't post this looking for sympathy.

I posted this to find out how many other people on the forum get the heebie jeebies when it comes to hospitals, and have actually come to hate the environment itself, just as much as the circumstances that have taken them there. Even if I had to go to a hospital for a good thing, such as a ultrasound of a baby, I'd still hate the environment.

How do doctors and nurses feel when they have to visit relatives? Is it just the same old place that you work in, or does it take on a different light?
