Garden design help

As you been so helpful in my VM thread I have another question. After moving into a new house last year the last task is for the the garden to have a makeover.

At present I have an Asbestos garage which I'm going to dismantle carefully and put a 10x8 shed in it's place, any ideas where I can get a semi decent one for around £500? In the opposite corner at the back of the garden there currently sits a patch of mud that's 15ft by 12ft in which my better half wants to put some decking. I'd rather not do this as it doesnt get a lot of sunlight so it's just going to deteriorate rapidly IMO but I can't come up with any ideas of what else to put there as an alternative argument A pond is out of the question and I don't see the point in a patio either as we wouldnt use it due to its location! Oh and we have a dog that likes to dig so no veggie patch etc ideas.......not that I'm hard to please or anything!!!

You won't get anything decent for the price, for the size you require. Timber costs have gone up through the roof, and anything around £500 is made of paper.

Don't get a metal shed, they condensate to fook and ruin your prized motorcycles.

As for the mud, decking is a less permanent option, although flagging it could be better, pooches like pi$$ing against wooden garden attire, and it stinks! At least with flags, your missus can have her garden table and chairs where she wants them

If DIY removal of asbestos is done make sure and be careful and damp it down before removal- we also had to get a certificate of disposal from our local authority that cost £150 IIRc.

m8 has one of those plastic ones and its great.

BUy a cheapie, then reinforce it yourself from within. Much cheaper. I did it, so not impossible.

From www.forestworkshop.co.uk for around £400. It's not bad. Still standing! Just raise it off the floor and it will last forever-ish....

Some of the wood was a little bowed but do what you can and like someone else said, reinforce from within. One thing to note is that the felt supplied is crap, thin and ripped very easily. I went and got some better stuff. Can't see that it came to more than £500 in total though. Very nice shed. Oh and also bought some loft flooring from B&Q and screwed that down.

Be careful with the asbestos mate, its not always easy to dispose of, ive included a link on asbestos removal below, I used to do a bit of landcsaping and was asked to remove sheets of asbestos from a old shed roof, I rang around and the best advice I got was to remove it, carefully triple wrap it in heavy duty polythene and bury it !good luck with it. As far as the mud goes why not flag it and put the shed there instead, or a bit leftfield but you could dig some compost and top soil into it and make it into a bog garden, stick some flag iris and various wet loving plants and off you go.

Cheers for the link Stewie. I've already been to see my local tip and I can dispose of it for free as long as its double bagged/wrapped and marked as Asbestos waste, the link confirms this too. They just said to bring it a bit at a time and to spread it around the three tips local to me so I don't fill the skip up Got to love the council here!

I've got my all in one disposable suit and masks already, just have to get some rubber gloves and I'm sorted....ooooh err

The mud goes right across the back of the garden so the shed will be on half of it leaving me with the other half to sort, as for the bog garden idea I'm sure the dog would love to dig in there but alas my missus has said it is to be a patio

Having very recently taken part in an asbestos course... I personally wouldn't touch it.

Are you 100% sure which type of asbestos it is? If you break up the asbestos and it goes airborne (which no doubt it will) it could affect others, neighbours etc.

For peace of mind I would at least get a quote from a certified company....
