Has anyone had any recent experience with Equity Redstar or similar for claiming for a new helmet, leathers and boots?
Had an off last week (blind taxi driver), and helmet needs replacing and there is minimal cosmetic damage to my leathers.. Been asked to go to clothing shop (i'll go j&s in eltham) and get a written quotation for my goods. Do you think the insurance will pay(after £50 excess) to replace my leathers even though they only have minimal cosmetic damage? Any opinions/experience welcome. Cheers |

Will be keeping an eye on this since mine suffered a similar fate a couple of weeks back...

My helmet, jacket, trousers and boots were replaced by ERS when I was offed as they were only six days old and I was able to provide receipts. That poor bike only 2 days into my ownership. It didn't bother ERS as they simply recovered it from the blind old git who couldn't see me stopped at a red traffic light.

I take it your claim is against the other cars insurance? They are liable to pay to put you back in the position you were in before the crash, and that includes damage to your clothing.Normally they dont quibble about replacement of helmet and any protective clothing that has been in a crash.Just dont try to get a top of the range Arai if you only had a ten year old Novak before.

Wow... 2 days. Thats somewhat impressive
![]() Yeah, ERS have just asked me to get a written quotation. Rung up the shop and they said they woould provide this, providing I pay them £20 (to which I will then get a credit note to spend in store). I assume the shop will say I need new ones as they will want me to go back there and spend the £750 or so. What info did you need to provide ERS? Photographic etc, and did you get to keep the gear that was damaged? |

My insurance is with Bennetts, but my helmets and leather cover is with ERS.. Third party was at fault, but this helmet and leathers cover covers me even if its my fault so I'm not sure how that works.. Just waiting for forms to come through etc. Bought all my gear in August, RST leathers and an AGV Stealth so looking to get roughly the same. |

Are you claiming against the other car?Surely that is who should be paying out for a crash that was their fault.

I held my claim against the 3rd party that hit me from behind. Bennets were my brokers for a policy underwritten by ERS. I simply submitted my claim form holding the 3rd part liable. Argued about valuations for the bike several times banking cheques as they arrived. The helmet/leathers was not too much of a dispute as the helmet was badly damaged as were my one piece leathers that had to be cut off. Initially they only wanted to pay 50% but relented when they realised they were all new, second time worn

Yeah very true, but I'm going through the helmet and leathers cover(ERS) for now, paying the £50 excess then when I file for compo I'll just add the £50 receipt. Makes more sense than waiting half a century to get £700+ back from 3rd party insurers. You know what there like, they will argue for a few months liability(filtering accident even though im in the right) and all that nonesense.
If i'm honest I cant remeber what ERS said with regards to 3rd party, but i suppose more will be revealed once the paperwork comes through. |
