Default recomend my wife a 50-125 twist and go.

My wife is doing her cbt next saturday and wants to start with a twist and go, upto 125cc.

Weve looked at a couple locally in bike shops, one a used yamaha 125, the other a new peugeot 50cc, v clic.

At the moment its purely going to be used for cross town commuting only.

Anyone got any that are pretty good, what to avoid?

I was thinking 4 stroke 125 be ideal, as preowned 2 stroke 50 could have been very abused. And avoiding chinese stuff.

Thanks, Lee

it's not a twist and go as such but how about an old honda c90. they are bullet proof and crash well. might also get her used to using gears (as such) for when she decides to maybe get a proper bike.

we used a Sym 50cc for cbt work, dead easy to ride. electric start. 12v lights and handled well for a scooter.

Bit more refined and modern than a C90, and a bit quicker off the line than my C90

Yep ideal, avoid the new Chinese stuff & 2 strokes.

Not sure where Sym's are made, but the quality was fine. We also had a Sym 125 road bike, with gears and that was ok too.

I got a Piaggio Fly 125cc that needs a new home. Needs a little work to get it back on the road.

I used a Yamaha Maxster XQ125 for a year commuting 15 miles each way. Four stroke 125. Disc brake both ends. No oil filter as such, just a strainer in the sump. Would sit at 65 with my bulk on it. Much more of a 'looker' than most other scooters of the era ('00-'04?). It's a rebadged MBK Thunder 125. Loved it and would happily own another if I needed a scoot to commute.

I've always loved the Peugeot Speedfight 100, they don't make them any more but they seem to go for around £600-700 on ebay for a well cared for one, watch out as alot of teenagers rag them silly, but they were supposed to be well rated mopeds, quick enough to keep with traffic up to 50mph limits(62mph top speed?)
