Have planned a trip for Late July. 10 days. Ferry to Spain first day. Ride around and end up at Valencia to see the old dear. I then have given myself three days to get to someplace near Fussen on the German/Austrian border where I am meeting up with a few friends.
I have sorted my stop on the first night, on the coast near Narbonne. Having never ridden in Switzerland I am not sure if I should avoid it. Sure it would be a bit shorter but would I have to get Swiss Francs as well as Euro's or do alot of places also take Euros? What are the Toll/Vignette charges like at the moment? Anything I would need to carry? I have allowed 100Euros a day for fuel, accomodation and an evening meal. Abit more for whatever I get up to. Sound about right? I know there's a fair bit of riding but thats why i am going ![]() Chris

Vignette is only for the motorways.
Swiss France are required most places, but you can get them out on your card easy enough or pay by credit card. Petrol tended to be cheaper there when I visited, but that was a couple of years back. |

I keep hearing the police are strict and the fines harsh, but thats similar to France I suppose. I reckon If I go through Switzerland then I would be staying in/around Lausanne. That would split the days into reasonable mileage.

Make sure your insurance covers you for Switzerland, check the small print you might find that it doesnt as its not part of Europe...

Good point, well made! Checked my insurance certificate, covers me in Europe, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. Equity Red Star through Carole Nash.

It was a while ago I went and I am not 100% sure of the exact route I took but I think it's the 3 road which starts in Chiavenna in italy and goes to St Moritz.
I only went through Switzerland briefly on the way from lake Como to the Stelvio pass so didn't go on the motorway or stay there the night however I did stop at one petrol station and they accepted euros (but then it was about 2 miles from Italy) I found the bit that I did to have the best kept roads I have ever driven on though. One word of advice though, do stop at the borders, I found that if you go tearing through trying to catch a group of TVRs they tend to jump out in front of you waving their guns around!
