Default Pointy maximum temperature?

At what temperature do bad things start happening to the engine? It's a K3

My fan came on at 106 today but it continued to rise up to 114

Im sure anything just over the 100 mark is about right for it coming on, not sure about the 114. Its supposed to cool it down!

If you haven't 'mucked around' with the cooling circuit in any way and it's going to 114 then its time to get the manual out and test the components in sequence.

About the same on my SV1000. Was out on a warm day yesterday, fairly stationary in the Wirral egg run with little airflow over the engine/rad.

Temperature rose to around 105/106 and then cooled, presumably with the onboard fan to around 95/97. When I managed to pick up a little speed (around 30mph or so) the temp drops to around 89 and remains fairly static.

I would be a little concerned if your temperature is going much above those sorts of figures, perhaps your thermostat driving the fan could do with replacing.

mine hovers around 76-78c and on very hot days will rise to 90-92c fan kicks in around 100c.

Daz if your bike is slow at reaching its operating temp (i'm around 1/2 mile) then it might be a good idea to get a new stat.

i let the bike idle till it starts showing its temp at about 23c then off i go and within 1/2 mile i'm up to temp which is 76-78 which it will sit steady at till i come to a halt at lights.
