Guys
How do I get shot of a mental block I have about a certain corner every time I ride round it I EFF it up. This weekend after I dropped everyone off at the end of Aprils Abuse I had a moment of target fixation on it. I knew I was doing it and stopped myself before I went round it. But I EFF this corner up every time I ride it and it doesn't matter which direction. Its not even a difficult corner but......... Short of doing an 80 mile round trip to spend the day going round one poxy corner how can I get rid this affliction. http://g.co/maps/xgu5c Tips and abuse are welcome, cause i can see more abuse than tips coming... thanks Dean

Can't see the rpoblem with the corner myself....just look at where you want to be, the bike will follow, and don't be distratced by those stupid chevrons...

+1 on Bib's.
All them chevrons and a slight downhill to the right after a long straight (mess's with your judgement of speed) mess with you! Cause you to think you should be going faster after you have gone round, you have that feeling of eff'ing it up. I have a similiar corner near GAC and everytime I come to it I freeze up, go round it and then think, "could have gone faster/smoother". I have decided a probably can't, accept it and get on with the next bend. It is my brain telling me "Don't do it, you will crash into those trees!" So thank you brain for keeping me safe. The bend on your map is not a good bend, lots of chevrons and with no safe escape, if you do get it wrong! thats a bloody big tree there. Go slow and smooth and enjoy the next bend! ![]() Oh, and your a big poof, get on with it! LOL (ps. will get back to you tonite on dates)

Doesn't look that bad of a corner, but there is plenty there that warrants extra attention, so I can see why you would have issues with it. It seems from following A to B that you are taking it as a right hander so...
First, I can see that it is difficult to stay too far left in your lane for purposes of observation as there have been so many tarmac repairs and it is not a nice surface, so first off, I would say knock off plenty of speed to allow for the fact that you can't get the road positioning you want safely. Second, there is no kerb on the bend so there is an increased chance of debris on the road, again meaning you can't take the best line and stay out long enough to see your exit the way you would normally like to. Third, the actual road surface mid bend does not look that great and you can see a few oil dumps, so again, need to knock off speed as you know that traction won't be the best on this corner. As for the chevrons and angle of the bend...seen much worse, but they can make you fixate on them quite easily. To be honest, I would forget about trying to stop target fixation on this bend. You know it, you know it is not great in terms of surface or visibility and you know that there are oil dumps on it from time to time, so this is not a bend I would be trying to improve on. There is one bend local to me that I really wanted to get better around last year and in the end I thought to myself, "it is one bend, I could do it faster if I wanted to, but with the surface and adverse camber it is pointless". Do yourself a favour and just take this bend slow and easy until you can properly see the exit and are clear of any bad surface ![]() |
