Now this looks very cool.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-17989553 It does raise a few interesting issues related to responsibility though. If the system fails or makes a mistake, who gets the blame? Will "driving without due care" need to be redefined in the future? |

Will people be labelled irrisponsible for wanting to drive? Even on a long motorway journey, I'd rather drive then be a passenger.

Super control freak here i HATE been a passenger, takes all sorts to get my mind off the fact im not in control of the vehicle. I'd forever be taking manual control of it, would never be able to relax etc.
Great for technology though, love the concept. |

Once it reaches the stage, as I'm sure it will, that the software implementation is deemed more reliable and safer than a human then we may have an argument on our hands to justify manual control of a vehicle. |

Hmm... Now, if you are still left with the option to take control whenever you see fit, then I applaud this and so should you. Think about it : no more SMIDSY, no more cars on the wrong side of the line in bends, no more distracted drivers that like to text rear ending you and so on.
If I'm left with the option to control my bike when I want to and have to navigate traffic that acts in a predetermined way to my presence, then that's just great ![]() ![]() |

How long before someone jumps in front of it or slams their brakes on to be rear ended so they can sue Google?

I doubt they'll be able to win - I'm sure Google will prove with the help of the data & video recordings that said person was being a **** and leave him broken & poor..
