Killed a bird on Wednesday.
What a glorious day, so off along the country roads.
Doing the national speed limit plus a bit more. (well a lot more really). And bang on my right knee something brown with feathers smacked into me, did make the bike wobble…. Eventually stopped and came back to see what had hit me, there were no signs… Bike lost Right front indicator glass and bulb missing. Had it been flying head height, then that's not worth thinking about. Anyway who have killed rabbits, foxes, birds, on the forum ?. And what are you meant to do with a bigger animal, ride through or take evasive action.

Re: Killed a bird on Wednesday.
I was driving along a dual carriage way and saw a Blackbird coming across the field. I thought it would fly over the car but it carried on at bonnet level. It bounced off with a "donk".

Anyway, not had any critters attack me on the bike yet but I collected a pigeon doing about 70 in the car a few years back. When I slowed down to pull over, a wing suddenly appeared as the air pressure holding it down went away. Freaked me a little. Opened the bonnet to extract it and the little b&gger slipped down in front of the radiator and gently cooked all the way home. I left the car to cool down once I got home and when I went back out to remove the body, it smelt like I'd roasted a chicken! |

Re: Killed a bird on Wednesday.
I once rode over a squirrel on my push bike, it was gross, it ran out between my wheels and my back wheel just went over it, squirrels make quite a big bump on a push bike.

Re: Killed a bird on Wednesday.
Luckily the biggest animal I have hit while on a motorcycle was a particularly large bee and that bounced off my lid with a definite donk too! I actually feel quite sorry for the bugs that die head first on the windscreen of on coming cars, trucks or bikes.
Years ago while still a dedicated greenie cyclist ( or Hippy!), I was riding along Bath tow path (keeping a steady race pace because I was training) when a bat flew down under a low bridge, just as I emerged from under it. The poor bat got caught in my multi coloured woolie and then climbed up my hair. I screamed like a school girl, you would have thought I was being murdered! That poor bat was probably most thankful that it got away from the screaming harpy/hippy and when I realised what happened I laughed like a loon on acid! That same year while cycling back to Bath from Bristol along the Sus-Trans cycle way, I realised that the dark shadow ahead was infact a badger, which I then had to bunny hop over. It freaked out and started running along next to me, keeping pace. It looked like a beautiful moment, shame I had unclipped from my SPDs and was again, screaming like a school girl! Looking back, I was such a wimp while at Uni. Why do I share these moments with you darling people?! |
