Default Speeding past patrol car

Imagine this scenario, you go past a moving patrol car at 6:30am, car speedo showing 48-50mph in a 40 zone, going downhill after slowing from a 50 zone, (well obviously not slowing) given that car speedos read about a certain % higher than actual true speed, ie 40mph on the speedo is about 36-37mph and that the ACPO charging threshold threshold for speeding is 10%+2mph (so 46mph on this road). There was no tug or blue lights as expected so I figure he has got away with it?? Do patrol cars HAVE to pull you if seen speeding or can they send it through the post? His satnav reads 70mph when the speedo is at 64 so the difference is around 10%.

If they wanted to pull you they would. I was doing 95 down the M5 last week and a bike cop flew up behind, i managed to drop to 85, he made a point of sitting on my front wing before making rapid progress again into the future lol.

well, do not wanna scare you but my mate was doing 112 on a 70 speed limit road and I was following him (thankfully going around 70mph). I noticed the police car pulling over so thought 'hey mate, you were lucky this time' but it turned out that the coppers have pull out to measure the actual speed. Two weeks later he got a letter with the fine...

Fingers crossed for you tho!

Sounds like you're safe.

If the car didnt change behaviour after you passed it then chances are they werent on traffic duty and/or didnt have their gear set up. To ticket you after the fact they need camera evidence but normally they would simply follow you if they wanted to pull you.

I didn't spot them as the car went past, only noticed after looking in the mirror about 2 car lengths back, they were on the inside, I figure they had just filtered in. Fingers crossed.

I have had coppers gradually increasing speed with me, they overtake me, pull in, I overtake them, they me.

By the time I indicated off the motorway they waved bye. The top speed during that exercise must have been about 135. Empty motorway, nothing dangerous. just two blokes enjoying the road for about 70 miles

No , if they thought you were a danger/needed talking to they would have done it.
Really common for people to pass police on motorways - if they didn't the road wouldn't work.

I've been in the car undertaking a police car to make a point of their poor driving before, no issue.

Isn't/wasn't there an instruction for them to cruise either above or below the speed limit to avoid causing the whole road to just seize up at 70mph?
