For Sale: Contour HD 1080P

Just over a year old, but little used for 2 reasons, explained later.

This is the contour HD 1080P model with the twin sighting lasers (bit of a gimmick but does the job of making sure its pointing where you want it).

Its not produced anymore, I think it has become the MK2, along with a series of other varients.

It takes movies in various modes, I found 720p to be adequate, 1080p tended to make my laptop struggle the files were so big. Takes micro sims, only a 2gb in it just now as I pinched the 16gb I bought for it to go in my new phone.
Battery lasts ages, but if a second is required its the same as a very cheap and popular nokia phone battery.

You can play the files with media player, or use Contours own software to import and view. If you have made a gpx file with a tracker then you can also import that, sync it and then it will playback with google maps to one side showing your progress. Bit fiddly but nice to try once or twice. The software also allows you to set resolutions, mic level, light levels etc.

So why am I selling it?
Two reasons - firstly the way you operate it. It has a lovely big sliding on/off switch on the top which is really easy to use when helmet mounted in gloves, HOWEVER you have to have it in standby mode first, which means pressing the small button on the back, impossible when moving. It will time out of standby after 15 minutes if not used. I mailed Contour about this, they suggested you make a short 5 second recording every 10 minutes or so to keep it alive. Hardly practical when trail riding.
Secondly, although not waterproof it is supposed to be splashproof. I agree thats true, but the front window (protects the lens) steams up far too easily. Just one big splash is enough. It even happened when I put it in my pocket wrapped in a latex glove because it was raining.
Does it no harm and is fine when indoors again, but again pretty hopeless for trail riding, my intended use.

Although the quality of the original is far superior, (the web site mungs the quality to allow streaming), you can see it steaming up as I progress, and at the end the picture is pretty bad.
This is my first bike cam, and to be honest I'm a bit disappointed, but I probably did not choose wisely, if you look at the website its more for the bunjee jump / base jump andventure climber types.

Anyway, if anyone is interested its £80 special delivered to your door. (less if you collect (Southampton)).
Its all good except the helmet mount - that comes with a one off very sticky pad which I've used. I later prised it off, drilled a hole in it and mounted it on a bracket to try on the bike direct, but never took it out. It can be re-used, but will need some good adhesive to re-use. The goggle mount is unused.

It's not bike specific mate, that's why DD moved it, nothing to do with your advert as such.
