Default Possible fuel pump noise and feeling a bit boggy?

Hello!

Done a bit of reading around on here trying to pin this down but couldn't find anything definitive. I have a number of what I -think- may be issues that I've noticed over the past few weeks.

When the engine is on I can hear a fairly high pitch whirring, sounds similar to when the fuel pump primes. Seems to be coming from the fuel tank area (trusty method of putting ear to the tank) - I've got a pretty loud can on her and I can still hear it (although not so much once I'm shifting...). Further to this the bike has felt really boggy over the past few weeks, just doesn't seem to be picking up quite as well and seems reluctant in lower revs - not terrible but still different to how it used to be.

Also, when opening the throttle with the bike in gear I can hear a 'hissssss' noise, sounds rotational but not sure where it's coming from. Doesn't happen off the throttle or when in neutral and raising the revs on the bike.

The bike is an SK3 with 16k miles, and as I mentioned, I've only noticed this stuff over the past few weeks. Does any one have any advice? Or am I just going insane?

Probably should have stated it's a 650...

Not sure on most of it but the "hiss" sounds similar to mine, with the standard can on it sometimes sounded louder than the exhaust.

I put it down to the intakes rushing air through as I hammered on through the range and gears, that brig said its just had a major service (the one with the complicated stuff like gaps) and they replaced the air filter. I can seem to hear it as clearly as before so could be that air filter needs replacing or cleaning. Or it could just be that my new exhaust drowns out the sound.

Id be interested to know what the hiss is though if anyone can confirm?

Hope the rest of it isn't major issues!

Any problems with starting the bike? How's the condition of the switchgear?

The clutch switch gave up a few weeks ago, so had that replaced. No problems since then with starting the bike. Switchgear seems fine as well.

All I can add is that I had a problem with the starter button/selenoid. The spring became dislodged and caused the starter to engage after I started the bike. This appeared to make continuously prime the fuel pump (whirring noise) and seemingly affected my battery. I'm not sure if this would affect the power but this is where my question came from. Its probably not this though as I've never heard of it happening to anyone else.

However, loss of power and fuel issues could be spark plugs. So if you have't checked them for a while, you might want to give em a quick check to rule this out.

Hopefully one of the more knowledgeable people will be along tomorrow to help.

Good luck.

Oh as it's on 16k miles, has it had its major service? That's what mine has just had and its all a bit quieter and smoother

Good thinking Runako, will have to have a check, although the sparkplugs were only replaced 1k miles ago when it had its major service (PyroUK) inc valve clearances etc.

Hmmm, if the starter isn't disengaging it could explain the whirring. I was thinking maybe the service was due so not quite in time but that's out the window!

With the power, did you fill up just prior to it? And was it somewhere you don't usually use? Have you filled up again since and was it the same place? Just thinking maybe it was a batch if bad fuel that may need to be run through? Maybe try some redex or whatever it's called? I personally haven't used it so maybe someone else can advise if it is actually worth using?
