Good Evening,
I have just bought my first SV ![]() Quick question, I have looked on google and am struggling to find the answer. I am trying to get quotes to insure albeit I have not passed my test, I need to insure incase of fire/theft, however a lot of companies won't quote due to lack of licence, or are too high compared to when I input that I have just passed. What is the best option. Thanks in advance |

Interesting question and unusual enough to not find an easy answer on the internet.
Put it in a dungeon with a couple of strong locks bolting it to the ground! Seriously though, do you have a parent or licenced sibling who could become the legal keeper and then insure it TPFT? Otherwise, speak with a broker over the phone or better still in person and explain the situation. You should be able to find a solution if you talk to people in the industry. When I think about it it should be no different to insuring something valuable like a diamond ring. Do you live with parents? If so they may have contents cover for their home, if they do you could add the SV as a named item on the contents policy. This could be the cheapest and easiest solution.

I insured a bike I bought before my test on a classic insurance storage type policy. The bike was brand new and insured for 3 months off road. I thought with the new insurance rules these policies would be 2 a penny.

Not how you'd think. The new insurance BS, dreamed up by a smackhead, rules... actually require 3rd party cover i.e the expensive bit.
so SORN it when it's uninsured. I too found theft-only policies to be more expensive than a normal one!

It can sometimes be done but most home policies exclude vehicles.

I don't know how big the company is I.e national, but we have a company near is which can do winter storage etc their name is BLD. I would have thought (possibly foolishly) that they have some kind of insurance for it so you don't need your own.
May be worth seeing if they have an operation set up near to you or if they know of a company that can help. At the least they may be able to give you pointers on storage and insurance options.

Perhaps the OP hasn't got a garage or even an option to park it off road? Unfortunately you can't park it on the road if it's not insured, even if you're not riding it. Don't know how old the OP is but how do people doing direct access get insured as they buy a bike and then ride it before they have a full licence? You must be able to get insurance with a provisional licence.
