Default Emulator setup K8?

Merry Christmas SVOrgers

Right. Ive just ordered my emulators as part of the group buy on here and Ive read up on how to fit them so the photo instructions have led me to believe that I could do it myself.

I received a recomendation to also buy a set of 0.85 springs and to use a 10w oil.

Q1. Can anybody tell me the number associated to the springs I currently have in my bike?

Q2. Can anybody tell me the viscosity of the fork oil I currently have in my bike? (if the 10w bit relates to the viscosity is what Im trying to say)

Q3. Can somebody point me to a simple to use and understand website where I can answer some questions and be givenoptions/recomendations for the spring and oil I am to use. (Having read this question thats why Im here.. anyway all answers are appreciated

Q4. Can anybody tell me how I can prove my emulator upgrade is working once fitted. (Other than the feel of the ride!)

I ride an SV650 sport K8 with new sport tyres and hel lines. I weigh 13stone fully clothed and I hope to improve my riding style with any mods that I make.

Kind Rgards

1. nope, you'll have to google that one. AFAIK they're still soft enough to warrant a replacement. You can change them later though if you're unsure.
2. 10W, worth changing though unless you did it recently. You'll need to check the level (air gap) with the emulator in place, I use the same air gap as stock (springs out, fork tube compressed, emu in).
3. what do you want to know? Set the emulator up for "road" rather than "track" i.e. not so firm and give it a go with stock fork oil weight (10W) and set the sag (preload) right. You need a sensible starting point and this is probably close enough that you'll be happy anyway. Loads of guff on here about suspension set-up if you search.
4. Use your Superman X-ray vision (TM). Seriously though you'll notice it rides better but it isn't going to be zero brake dive or anything like that. If you swap the springs at the same time then you might not figure out the difference straight away. The emus give the forks a good bit more subtlety over ripples, and the fork springs give better feel when you load up the front i.e. braking, fast corners.

If you want to improve your riding then you can't get away from good training. Again loads of opinions on here about the various options, but it's all about how you ride it.

Cheers johnnyrod I'm going to try it with just the emus first. Good info on point four. Really want to do Chris walker race school to improve my track riding.

Did my first track day (or second, it was a while ago now) wiht the emus in but the stock springs, which were like mush even with my miserable weight. It's quite doable but the extra confidence from changing the springs is also worth it.

Re. track riding schools, I've been through the Superbike School which was a style that worked for me, although the downside is that it takes time and money compared to the ones that ram it all into a day. They are however very good at what they do, and most people there found the pace to be reasonable - it's broken donw into a number of simple steps to learn. Anyway whoever you go with, the thing a lot of people seem to miss is that it's all about bike control. You can learn a line around any track but it won't help you rider better, even on that track. If you understand the bike control you can ride anything, anywhere.
