Default Door locks

I have some French windows leading into the conservatory. Recently (since it's started to get cold) the doors have started to jam and not open.
What seems to be the problem is that the tongue piece of the first door (I'm calling the door which should open without necessitating the other door being opened the first door) which should disappear into the door when the handle is pulled down doesn't seem to tho it seems able to if I push my thumb against it.
Is there any easy solution to the problem or do I need a new mechanism? I assume it doesn't require a new door but I'm not sure how standard these mechanisms are.

Thanks

Mine, upvc, do this all the time, constantly having to adjust the hinges to counteract the movement the doors have

They're like a mirror of bits of me, contract in the cold and expand in the heat

Sorry, PVC, not wood

Not sure what you need to see - there does seem to be a lot of moving parts on the door but not sure how to capture that

I'm sure I could diagnose it, but can't quite understand what the problem is, for the mechanism to work correctly, all the locking pins have to fully engage in their pockets for the door to shut and lock properly, this sometimes takes a bit of time fine tuning.

Don't worry, I'll see if I can determine who installed and get them in. I now know there is no silver bullet - it's all a matter of experience.

Thanks all

Normally if that centre latch wont push in by hand if the door is in the open/unlocked position then the lock mechanism needs attention - note I said normally. That lock is different to what we use, yours looks like a handed lock - ours can be used on either door.

I would give a local 'Window Medic' a ring. They are normally ex window/door fabricators so should know their beans.

The door hasn't 'dropped' has it? Rubbing on the bottom frame keep??

not to sure what your problem is,but most upvc doors can be adjusted up and down at the hinge, and sometimes they can be adjusted in and out so the doors will have more or less clearance where they over lap

Sounds like an installation fault to me, they shouldn't do this if put in properly. Plastic does expand & contract the same as wood but it is absolutely vital with upvc doors that they are toe & healed correctly on installation.
