Anyone watch it last night?
So this morning Mr LPH nearly killed me by deciding to not put sugar in my morning coffee... so I weighed out the sugar he consumes in his small daily yogurt (22g) and small cake (about 25g) to demonstrate that my 1 teaspoon in my coffee isn't so bad. He was shocked as we have a fairly healthy diet. The programme did make interesting watching. They seem to suggest sugar is worse for you than cocaine and heroin so as they make you thin I'm thinking of sprinkling coke on my morning porridge in future.

It could have been worse, instead of simply leaving out the sugar he could have committed an offence punishable by stoning.
If he substituted the sugar for a sweetener to test you, I think the sentence has been reduced from murder to x1 week community service. |

I've been using sweetener in my tea for years, I really cannot tell the difference, I'd rather stop drinking tea than drink it without sugar/sweet taste but if I had sugar every time I'd be consuming a lot of sugar.

I can't have any artificial sweeteners. My bladder and kidneys won't tolerate them. But I don't think they are the answer as don't they increase appetite?

As a diabetic I watch my hidden sugar intake. But I have not added it to anything I make for about 40 years, use a teaspoon that has stirred someones sugared brew in mine and I can taste it.
We need to insist that food producers reduce their unnecessary sugar input.

I already do cook most things from scratch and it tastes better for it. I use my local indian shops for spices instead of cooking sauces etc. Fresh fish and meat from a butcher I trust, veg from the local farm shop. and I even bake. I make a damn good date and walnut loaf using a fruit sugar substitute etc.
What gets me, is simple things my grand kids add such as ketchup, baked beans etc. Crammed unnecessarily with sugar

I love cake, biscuits and chocolate. It has been known for me to make my own.(apart from the chocolate)
I also have grown my own fruit and veg for two years. I don't have fizzy drinks in the house, I drink full fat milk, which is scientifically better than the horrid half fat stuff. I don't give my children chocolate sodden cereals, and I certainly don't sweeten my tea or coffee with sugar or sweeteners. Sweeteners are the devil, most are full of aspartame which is BAAAADD!! Porridge with a dash of honey for me every morning with the youngest. The kids don't like things like ketchup either. I opt to cook everything from scratch. I am particularly fond of the Mediterranean diet eaten in our house. If you have a good diet, whats the problem? I'd like to hope that because I cook a lot and know what goes into it, that the sugars we eat are actually eaten in full knowledge of what they contain.....like cake, biscuits and chocolate ![]()

Totally agree Dizzy, I made an apple and rhubarb crumble yesterday and yes it contains sugar but I know exactly how much I put in. The sugar in my cereal comes from the fruit in it, not from a sugary coating. I will admit to a small sugar in my coffee but as I only drink 2 or at most 3 cups a day it's still not a huge amount and I rarely drink fizzy drinks or eat sweets, cakes or biscuits.
I think what is shocking is the amount of sugar added to things that are then marketed as 'healthy' such as Fruitshoot drinks, yoghurts and cereal bars. If you don't know what to look for on the label I imagine it must be very easy as a busy parent to just grab that sort of thing on a rushed supermarket shop and be feeding your kids a load of rubbish. I struggled to even read the label on the yoghurt this morning it was so tiny and it says per 100g so you have to do a bit of maths for every product too. Maybe if it said in big letters "This tiny pot of yoghurt contains 5 teaspoons of sugar" in the way cigarettes warn you people would buy more carefully.
