Default Ducati 748?

I am considering selling the sv and getting a ducati 748 which is a v twin still slightly older than my Sv for a bit more than what the sv is worth.

Anybody owned one previously? Or have any opinions?
I do love the sv but ducati are eternally cool. A local dealer has one in I'm going for a test ride this weekend if I get time.

I'm looking at a 2001 748e model. Fuel injection.

Depends what you want to use it for. The SV is a far better all rounder, but if it's just for sunny Sunday afternoon blasts then the 748 is a great bike. And it's a Ducati.

Just make sure you don't buy a dog and make sure it has a solid history otherwise it could become very expensive very quickly.

Not owned a 748, but have had a couple of Monsters. Love 'em

Hi
I bought a 916 in 2001 as always wanted one.
To this day when I walk up to it I think what a lovely looking bike it is,never had that with a bike before,or since.
I rode mine to Misano 2 years ago and despite everyone thinking I wouldn't be able to move once I got off it,had no problems.
Only mechanical problems I've had are desmo rocker plating peeling & two side stands snapping.
The only other problems are the bike laughs at me,as it's far better than I can handle, and Ducati's are addictive, I have 4 at the moment, you have been warned.
Cheers Stuart

Two words with the 748. Rocker arms.

Look up the chrome flaking issue. Beautiful bike but it is a lottery.

I still get a shiver down my spine when I see a 916. Most beautiful bike ever made.

I had an old monster, I loved that bike, but you have to remember that Suzuki bikes are Japanese and reliable, Ducatis are Italian and very temperamental. Mine hated the cold and when you could eventually get her started she would backfire all through our local village, if she hadn't been so loud I would have been able to hear DJ laughing at me because I know he was.

Me again.
As others have said, check service history & research as much as you can.
Ducati forum uk has a wealth of knowledge. If not uk monster owners, although for monsters loads have had,or still own other Ducati's and engines for Ducati tend to get used in more than one model.
Other than that, if you buy one & find you don't like it then you've owned the best looking bike ever designed. If you don't like it then at least you've tried one.
Happy shopping
