Default any tellingbone bods on here?

I am getting one of the elderly neighbours asking for my help.

She has got (I do not know where from, could have bought or been given by her provider) a black box to go in line between her master socket and phone to block nuisance calls. Can I fit it for her.

A quick look. she has 1 hand set and two extensions off to further phones all from the front panel of her master socket. The master socket is a dual socket and internally wired between the two with a further splitter inserted to handle the third phone (and an external sounder)

I get the feeling that the black box needs to be in line between the master socket and all these phones. Or will it function properly and disconnect the calls if in line to a single phone only.

I can easily run the output of the call blocker to a flying socket where she can plug in her 3 lines if necessary. Do I need to put this flying socket in place? or will it still work in line between the master socket and the first hand set?

The short answer is no.

The long answer is possibly, depends on how the blocker works but it would be better if you could install it in front of all of the phones. Assuming it works the way I imagine it simply reads the callers ID before allowing the ringing current to pass through it in which case the other phones not passing through the unit would still ring.

Without knowing exactly what the box is that's the best generic answer I can give you.

Thats what I was guessing. The other possibility is that the blocker simply toggles an answer/drop in which case anywhere on the parallel distribution she has should suffice.

Could do, But if it does that the phones may chime/start to ring each time because they'll receive the current at the same time as the blocker.

If it's possible to do simply I'd go for fitting it in before the extensions. You could always test it by using your mobile to call the number with it connected but putting 141 in front of the number so it calls withheld (assuming the blocker is set to reject these).
