Default Burning clutch (car)

In St Ives (don't bother - plenty of loos everywhere but when the tourist office charges a quid for a very basic street map, needed because a lot of streets have no signs, something is wrong).

Anyway. To leave my hotel I go up an incredibly steep hill and something my handbrake struggles with. I was riding the clutch this morning as there was someone in front of me who was faffing. Got quite a sudden and large cloud of smoke from under the bonnet, think it was the clutch struggling. With hindsight it wasn't my finest moment.
So, having done this (car seems fine now) I assume it's done some damage but is it just going to mean that the clutch needs replacing earlier than normally? When this sort of thing happens does it mean that I've worn out 1/10 mm of clutch plate surface or almost all of it? Thoughts?

Thanks

See how it drives over the next few days & if you notice any movement in the bite point & smoothness.

Don't recent VW group cars stop you doing that?

I've noticed my wife's diesel Fabia won't let me left foot brake, but you can still build the revs when stationery with the foot brake on.

Don't park at the bottom of a hill until you're sure ?
