SV650s Electrical Problems
Hello, Sorry ive seen a few things on here but regarding the SV650s electrical but haven't quite solved it myself.
It is a 2005 SV650s. Scenario is. - Bike worked fine until I stopped using her for winter (she has been covered but she has been outside with the battery still hooked up keeping my alarm active) - Went to start her last week, Had some display on the digital dash but not enough power to start...or even try. - Put the battery on charge, within 5 min It said the battery was fully charged. Pretty sure I need a new battery but just thought I would put it back in & now nothing comes up on the digital dash. - Checked the relay under the seat and the 30a fuse is fine, checked it with a multimeter to make sure. Checked all the fuses and they seem fine. Alot of people mentioned looking at a green cable towards the front of the fuel tank. Checked this and it seems fine? Not quite sure where i should check next? Id like to have an idea of whats wrong before I send her to a mechanic. Cheers for any help? |

Re: SV650s Electrical Problems
if the battery is the original i would put money on that. try a new battery first.
next up would be the alarm, you might have to reset it. then the ignition switch itself could be dodgy. |

Re: SV650s Electrical Problems
Thanks for such a quick reply!
Got a new battery on order but my local didn't stock it. The ignition switch itself, how would I check this? It is fairly temperamental in getting the key to turn but It has always worked. As for the alarm Im debating just removing this but I haven't properly looked into this yet. Its a Datatool S4 Red alarm system, Ill look around for how to reset this but if you know that would be greatly appreciated as well. |

Dont do anything until you have ruled out the battery. This used to happed to me a lot because the battery I had was rubbish. You could always try a car battery if you had access to one and connect it via jump leads. Make sure the car is not running !

Re: SV650s Electrical Problems
Agreed try the battery first, if it all works great.
Then you can remove the sodding alarm anyway. Data Tool... If it doesn't work then remove the sodding alarm and I'd bet money it starts. From memory when the battery goes flat the alarm thinks your bike is being stolen. You will probably need to reset it once the battery is connected.

Re: SV650s Electrical Problems
Hello everyone,
Partly it seems it was the battery although the 30a fuse was fine the unit itself seemed to have a break in it somewhere too so I swapped out that relay box entirely and shes up and running now. Thanks for all your help |
