Default Am I fitting the correct speedo rotor?

Hi everyone,

I'm just about to replace my speedo rotor for the second time in a year and wondered what I'm doing wrong. I've purchased the correct part for my bike (a 2000 curvy S) but the 4 tags on the rotor itself are so much narrower than the castellations in the wheel, there is so much float, is this this why they break so frequently? The tags line up perfectly with the raised parts in the wheel but it obviously won't work in this position. I've also read a few posts claiming that the speedo sensor groove should be positioned behind the spigot on the fork leg and not slot over it, this leaves it free to spin around the spindle so I can't see that this would be right! I've had so many bikes over the years and worked on all of them but this has me foxed and £25 for a rotor is not funny, remember when bikes had a normal square drive cable?

Thanks in advance.

I make no claim to be a technical expert, but Chris 8886 had his break when having new tyres fitted and Mr Squid advised at the time that they do break easily. He also replaced the part for Chris so if he sees this thread he may be able to offer advice. I don't think though that Chris paid as much as £25 for the part, which he bought from a shop in Harrow via eBay.

Thanks for the info, the new rotor arrived from Fowlers today, I'll be fitting it during the week so if anyone has any pearls of wisdom on this I'd be grateful
