Default Broke down this morning

Hi folks,

Looking for some assistance as I have read a bunch of threads so far related to my current condition of solid FI light and CHEC showing but none are similar to my circumstances.

On the way to work this morning, 10mins into journey the bike lost all power and cut out. Happened mid corner but i caught it in time.

So by power loss I mean sudden and as soon as I pulled in the clutch, the engine died.

Bike will not start or even prime the injectors.

Any clues on where to start first?

I hope its electrical. When I put it in gear its still hard to push forward so i assume the engine is not the issue. Is that even a way of knowing?

There is a datatool s3 alarm fitted and its still working and seems to disarm.

Have popped in the dealer mode but cant get any error codes to appear.

first thing is to check the main fuse on the starter relay and the fuses in the rear.

if there is no power to the clocks then its a sure bet it the green connector or indeed the ignition switch.

failing that and the clocks are working and all fuses are intact then its the Datatool has gone wonky and bit the dust.

I was going to suggest checking the clutch wire, I've had that slip out just a slight too far, which has been an annoying one to diagnose. Lack of hearing the injectors makes me think otherwise though.

Right, cheers lads.

Green block is an issue I had long ago. Its been removed and cables soldered but when that happened to me last it was a total electrical power loss. This time, electric stayed on and the chec and red FI were on before I even came to a stop.
It could be the solder joints have come apart but i dont think so. Ill add to my check list.

Good point of the clutch switch wires, ill check em out.

What about bad fuel. I filled up in a garage I'm not familiar with the other day. If the fuel was crap, would it run fine for a day and then end like this?

Sounds similar to when mine cut out on the motorway. One of the cables to my data tool had worn through was was shorting out one of the fuses in the boot. Have you checked they are all OK and the main fuse?

nope. you could fill with oil and it would not show as FI. CHECK only comes on with a safety feature like trying to start the bike with the kill switch on or side stand down and in gear etc.etc.

you havent made the classic mistake of thumbing the kill switch have you?

No, I wish this was the kill switch.

Check the tip over switch is still attached to it's mount and horizontal. Been known to come off and hang from it's wires. It's behind the rear brake fluid reservoir.

I don't have the maintenance/service manual for your year, but there is a good troubleshooting flow chart for the electrical/ignition FI system in the correct manual. If you follow it, it will lead you to the problem with the least amount of errors on your part.

I don't have a tip over switch on mine, but I know how they are generally mounted, and they don't fall off. How is the SV650 tip over switch (when equipped) mounted that it falls off Bibio?

on the pointy its held in on a rubber mount connected to the back of the battery box, its very rare for them to fall out or get dislodged unless you have an after market shock butchered in. if its at the wrong angle then yes it will stop the pump and cut the bike. the red oil light usually comes on when it happens though.
