Had some issue today with the bike not starting. RAC say the battery is needing replaced. I have been recommended (by Google) to use the YT12A-BS battery which I now have bought from Halfords.
Any opinions on this and/or tips to help me with this as I have never had to change a battery before. |

Very simple, just remember to disconnect the black wire first for removal and then reconnect the red wire first when you're wiring it back up.
You may need a pair of pliers or grips of some sort to grab one of the terminals on the old battery just to lift it enough so you can get a good grip to lift it out of the battery box but it's not held in by anything. Last edited by tom_e; 07-12-15 at 09:05 PM. |

Thanks Tom. That's exactly the kinda thing I needed informed of.
What is the risk if I don't take the wires out/in in that order? Not sure what to do with the old battery once its changed, I cant put it in a general bin can i? |

Take it to the local tip they will have a bin for it. If you don't do it in that order there is the possibility of causing the wires to short out on things like the frame and other metal bits.

is it safe enough to be transported in any old fashion or should I have it in a container?

Don't forget to charge the new battery before fitting it. Either on a smart charger (Optimate, Oximiser etc) or on an ordinary trickle charger. If using the latter keep an eye on the voltage across the terminals using a multimeter and take it off charge when it reads 14.2V.
