Default Halfords Socket Offer

Morning Org.
Just had an exclusive email from Halfords - yeah me and everyone else.

However the deal looked quite good, especially if you were looking at getting a socket set.

Halfords Advanced 170 Piece Socket Set was £300.00 now £130.00
Halfords Advanced 120 Piece Socket Set was £200.00 now £90.00

Enter Code SOCKETJAN at checkout. Ends 23.1.17

Now I don't need one, but one of you might.
Enjoy.

Halfords professional socket sets are really good quality and have a good selection of single hex and smaller sizes of deep sockets. Also 1/4. 3/8 and 1/2 inch ratchets in there. I have had one of the 120 piece sets for about 10 years now and it has proved its worth many times.

Would be great value if it were not for the imperial sockets none of which I will ever use. I have some Halfords Advanced kit and it's great.

Useful if you ever want to work on older (pretty old) bikes

I've just succumbed to the temptation and pick it up from my local store in an hour.

imperial sockets are good for 'rusty' bolts and a few imperial are actually a better fit than a lot of cheep metric sockets. dont by 12 point sockets always by 6 point. the 12 point round the nut unless they are brand new bolt/nut. the best sockets i have ever used are walldrive as they grip on the flat of the nut/bolt.

I call them single hexagon or double hexagon sockets, and you are 100% correct, double hex sockets which only locate on the corner of nut or bolt head are so useless I am surprised they still make and sell them. The double hex on a ring spanner is there to let you have more choice of positions for the main body of spanner, but sockets normally have a ratchet handle and even if they don't there is the square on the drive that allows some latitude in handle position.

Just a word of caution from experience - I have clearly marked the top ('TOP') and bottom ('X') lid on my set with white paint pen (but tippex or similar will do) - if you open it upside down (with the loose socket section on top) all the bits all fall out and roll down your driveway. Only did it once and did not want to repeat the painful experience again in a hurry - people who like jigsaw puzzles may like it but I didn't.
