Default GSXR Fork Conversion Curvy Top Bearing query

Hi guys.

part way through converting my bike to run gsxr forks.

i have a query on the top bearing and hoping people that have done it before can help.

i brought a top bearing from all balls, it contained a taper bearing 30x47x12 plus some extra spacers to make it up to 30x47x15.

i seem to remember reading somewhere i needed the 15mm height but now i have fitted the bearings i'm not so sure. fitting the extra 3mm spacer means the second nut only has a few threads.

can people who are in the know have a look at the below pictures and let me know if i need to fit the extra spacers on the bearings.

the triple is only hand tightened at the moment.

Thank you

I hope someone with SV specific knowledge can help.I can only speak for the ,"All Balls" Taper kits I used on my Honda CX500s.I did NOT use or need the Top large spacer.

If in doubt do as I did and contact All Balls via email/web in the US.They were incredibly helpful and actually replied to my query

Give them as much info as you can.

Not sure if it should have the washer between the lock nuts, it's a while since i put mine together or apart. Plus isn't there meant to be a weather seal for the top bearing, which also has a thin washer in it?

Not sure if your bottom bearing is fully seated, depends how much more tightening you've got to do. Bottom bearing race is harder to get seated.

I'll have a look at mine tomorrow.

there is a seal fitted under the lock nuts or do you mean the black cover which was originally on the sv suspension, i wasnt sure if it needs fitting or not. the video i saw on it didnt re-use it.

everything is only hand tight so once tightened the lower bearing will be pulled in more.

Yes, that's why I reused it.

Just had a look at mine, the washer between the lock nuts is correct, although yours looks a little thicker than mine, the washer under the top nut looks to be much thicker than mine,

But once you've torqued everything up, and bounced on it a few times, then the races might settle in a bit more, so you can take up some extra turns on the top nut

Thanks maviczap.

Tightened it all up today and seems to be ok. Still a little confused on the bearing size as the original is 15mm height. But I've seen some old threads on here which were selling bearings for the conversion which were 12mm height.

The way it is now though at 12mm looks to be the way to go. Everything seems to work ok at the moment anyway. I guess I'll just build it up as it is and see how it goes.

Top bearing race needed to be 12mm to sit below the top of the steering tube top bearing on the curvies I think

Pointies use the normal size bearing
